In 2001 I completed my coursework at Michigan State University in Clinical Laboratory Science. That summer I traveled throughout Europe, and worked in the accessioning area at Mclaren Regional Medical Center . In November I began my clinical internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. I was exposed to numerous clinical situations due to the variety of patients that are treated at Henry Ford. I believe the Medical Technology Program chooses clinical sites, which offer the best opportunities for its graduates.
The week after completing my internship I took the NCA and ASCP exams just in time to head to Sicily to meet my fiance's family. About a month later I became employed at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. I started working second and third shift, but soon moved to first working as a generalist.
While working I felt a need to further my education, but was unsure of which path to follow. I soon found my answer at an MSCLS meeting. Dr. Thorne informed me of a new graduate program which revolved around business, management, and science. This brings me to my current position as a graduate student in the Biomedical Laboratory Operations program. I have already witnessed the opportunities that are offered to graduates of this program, and eagerly await my turn. I would like to thank my husband, and the Medical Technology faculty for their support and guidance through this endeavor.
