I graduated from the Clinical Laboratory Science program in May of 2006. Upon graduation I started my internship at St Joseph Mercy in Ann Arbor Michigan. During my rotation I decided to start working part time for the hospital on midnight shift in their chemistry and hematology departments. At the completion of my internship I took the ASCP and NCA and started working fulltime at St. Joe’s. I really enjoyed the hospital and was able to see two automated lines come in and completely change the lab, but I was sick of Michigan weather. So in March of 2007 I decided to apply to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville and within three months I had my Florida State License, a new apartment and a new job.

At Mayo Clinic I work primarily in the hematology department, I have learned an incredible amount of information from the great med techs, nurses and doctors that I work with. Most of my time at Mayo is spent doing bone marrows, differentials and special coagulation training and testing, including the HIT test and platelet aggregation. Mayo is opening a new hospital on campus this month and the lab is expanding at a rapid rate. Our continuous growth will allow me to expand my knowledge as a med tech and learn so much more about this field.

Once my Florida residency is official and I get more experience in the medical field I plan on pursuing a Masters of Health Administration from the University of North Florida. Until then I enjoy spending as much time as I can at the beautiful beach and cheering on Spartan basketball and football in a sea of Gator Fans. GO STATE!
