| Ms. Chinonye Umeh is the Project Coordinator for the Mid-Atlantic Center for Children's Health and the Environment. She provides technical assistance and manages all aspects of the project. She is also a Research Associate with the Center for Risk Science and Public Health at the GWU School of Public Health and was involved in a pilot study, funded through the National Environmental Educational and Training Foundation, to perform an educational needs assessment for pediatric health care providers on pesticide toxicity. She helped develop survey tools that were used for the study, conducted focus groups, analyzed results of the research and prepared a final report of the findings. Prior to working at GW, she was the project coordinator at Howard University Hospital for an NIH-funded multi clinical control study on Alzheimer’s Disease Prevention using estrogens. Ms. Umeh obtained her Master's degree in Public Health at The George Washington University - School of Public Health and Health Sciences with a concentration in maternal and child health. She worked on her Master's thesis (special project) through John Snow Research and Training Institute, Arlington, Virginia, where she assisted with a project on reproductive health in refugee settings. Ms. Umeh brings some clinical and scientific expertise to the project; by training she is a certified Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Ms. Umeh obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and completed her clinical rotation at the Detroit Medical Center - University Laboratories, Detroit, Michigan before pursuing her career and interest in public health. |
