Lois Loetz, formerly Lois Ungren, graduated from the Medical Technology Program in 1952. After graduation she worked for the Michigan Department of Health, and then for Olin Memorial Hospital which was located on campus at Michigan State College.

In the mid 1950's, she and her husband opened the New Zeeland Community Hospital. Together, they planned and equipped the laboratory. Lois worked there ten years part-time and then as an "on-call" employee. After a break of 3-4 years, she went to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids Michigan for "retraining" in all departments of the lab.

For the past 25 years, Lois has managed the clinical lab for Western Michigan Internal Medicine. (A large group practice of internists in Grand Rapids.) Lois feels that the most interesting years were when she was able to work under a Board Certified Hematologist. During that time she saw just about every blood dyscrasia there is.

Next year will mark the fifty year anniversary of Lois's graduation and registration. She is happy to say that she is still employed in the field and loving it. She is quick to point out however, that the field today is nothing like it was when she graduated!

In her free time Lois enjoys to travel. She and her husband have been across the U.S. and most of Europe. She loves music and the theater, and insists that the Stratford festival in Ontario Canada is a must. She also enjoys reading about American history and can always find time for a good bridge game.
