CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

CATEGORICAL CURRICULUMS

Michigan State University

 

Purpose: The curriculums presented offer students an opportunity to become nationally certified in one of the following categories: Blood Bank (Immunohematology), Chemistry, Hematology, or Microbiology. National certification facilitates employment in medical laboratories.

 

Eligibility: Students in the following categories are eligible: those who are in enrolled at MSU in a degree seeking major either undergraduate or graduate; those enrolled as a second degree candidate; those enrolled as a Lifelong Education student. All must formally apply to the Clinical Laboratory Science Program.

 

Credentialing: The student must complete the appropriate course work, complete the clinical experience, and then that student is eligible to sit for the categorical exam in the specific discipline offered by the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA). Specific details are explained in the NCA manual or on the web at www.nca-info.org .

 

Clinical Phase: The candidate for the categorical will be placed at a clinic site affiliated with the MSU CLS Program, as space permits.
