Anthony A. “Tony” Armada is the President and Chief Executive Officer for Henry Ford Hospital and Health Network. He oversees the health care delivery and integration efforts of 903-bed Henry Ford Hospital, 22 ambulatory health care centers, Behavioral Health Services and Coordinated Care Services throughout metro Detroit.

With over twenty-two years of experience in the healthcare field, Mr. Armada is known for his focus on market and program development, leadership development, operational turnaround efforts, physician relationships and partnerships, strategic efforts toward quality enhancement and high patient and employee satisfaction.

Before joining Henry Ford Health System, Mr. Armada was the Senior Vice President and Area Manager for Kaiser Permanente’s Metropolitan Los Angeles Service Area from May 2000-May 2004. Mr. Armada served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Northridge, California 1998-2000. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Chino Valley Medical Center in Chino, California and in other senior executive positions within several hospital facilities and corporations in the previous years.

Mr. Armada has also been very involved in community and civic activities. Prior to departing for Michigan, Mr. Armada was presented with a City of Los Angeles Resolution signed by the Mayor and City Council Members and a California State Assembly Resolution signed by three Assembly members for his contributions and efforts to the communities and healthcare issues surrounding the city and county of Los Angeles.

Mr. Armada served on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the third largest chamber in the nation. He was instrumental in developing the Chamber’s Healthcare Committee in July 2002. This effort lead to the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce advocating a support position on the Measure B Parcel Tax Initiative that helped in saving LA County’s trauma and emergency system during the LA County Crisis. For his contribution and leadership effort, Mr. Armada was the recipient of the Board Member of the Year Award for 2002, as nominated by his fellow Board Members and Chamber staff.

Mr. Armada served as a Board of Directors of the American Heart Association, Los Angeles County Chapter, the second largest chapter in the nation. In 2002 he was nominated as Chairman-Elect and is the Chairman of the Board for the July 2003 – June 2004 term. His involvement in the AHA has created a spotlight in the activities of Kaiser Permanente’s Medical Care Program, especially in the treatment of cardiac, stroke, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Mr. Armada was very involved in efforts to address the Los Angeles County health care crisis. His involvement continues as a member of the Planning Group and Budget Oversight Group of the Department of Health Services of Los Angeles County. He also chaired the Operational Impact Group for KP Southern California Region, formed to anticipate steps to take if closure of county hospitals did occur. During this involvement, Mr. Armada participated in health care panels, presentations and was a guest speaker in discussions addressing the health care crisis in Los Angeles County.

Mr. Armada serves as a mentor for various individuals and also participates in the American College of Health Care Executives’ Mentoring Program. He is also an Advisory Board member of the CORO Foundation Leadership in Healthcare initiative. He was an advocate for leadership development within Kaiser Permanente, with his direct reports and management team. In 2000, Mr. Armada was honored by the Filipino American Business Press with their Distinguished Achievement Award for his work and contributions with youth and for participating in the career development and mentoring of professionals in the field.

Mr. Armada received his bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and his dual master's degree in Hospital Administration and in Business Administration from Xavier University in Ohio. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Healthcare Executives and served on the adjunct faculty of California State University, Northridge, CA., Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH. and the University of La Verne, La Verne, CA for their Undergraduate and Master’s Programs in Healthcare Administration.

A devoted family man, Mr. Armada resides in Grosse Pointe Park with his wife, Racelle, and daughters Alexandra and Alyssa.
