Program Description: The Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program of MSU has been a leader in the education of Clinical Laboratory Scientists for 85 years. This presentation explores the history of Michigan State University beginning with the Morrill Act 1862, overlaying significant events in the evolution of what started as Medical Biology. We will explore challenges facing higher education as we celebrate both the 85th anniversary of the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program and 150 years of the Morrill Act. Program objectives include: 1) understand how historical foundation have shaped the nature and culture of MSU; 2) trace the growth of the Medical Biology Program from small division in Veterinary Medicine to a highly technical biomedical program in the College of Natural Science; 3) understand factors that are shaping the character of higher education at MSU in the 21st Century.
